I am a fairly novice mountain/trail bike rider and just recently purchased a dual suspension, 29er mountain bike to be more aggressive on my local trails. During my riding I have had problems with my feet slipping off the original pedals and have bent the original pedals upon collisions with rocks and roots. It was time to upgrade to durable, high quality pedals. After about 2 weeks of reading online reviews of all sorts of platform pedals, these Easton Flatboys came out as clear winners:
SYNOPSIS:
- They are VERY tough. They proved this to me when I leaned too far on my bike while riding on a concrete embankment in an aqueduct. Suddenly, I heard loud scraping and felt my bike twitch. I stopped and examined the damage: very light scratch on the pedal.... very deep gouge in the concrete.

Bought them when I got home and they are great. Plenty of room to move around when bouncing on the trail. Due to the extra width they will bottom out on hard turns if you ride a full suspension (only while compressed though). Highly recommended if you are not a clipper.

Up until now, I had only used regular sized pedals for the bikes I have owned. I decided that maybe it was time to try some platform pedals and while doing my research, Easton Flatboys seemed to be the standard bearer. Other pedals were deemed to be lighter but not as tough and the main complaint about the Flatboys was their cost. I got them on Amazon and recently had them installed and they are GREAT. No worries of my foot slipping off and the fact that more of your foot is making contact with the pedal seems to make it easier to get more power onto the cranks. Very solid, well made product.
