Shimano PD-5700 105 Road Bike Pedals, Silver Reviews
26 of 28 people found the following review helpful A good value compared to the Ultegra but I have concerns with cleat, August 1, 2010 By This review is from: Shimano PD-5700 105 Road Bike Pedals, Silver (Sports) As I write this review on 8/1/2010, the product product I received was Black, not Silver.
Putting that aside, this is my first SPD-SL type pedal. I had previously been using Shimano PDM535 SPD pedal on my road bike. I did not really have any issues with those pedals and I actually enjoyed being able to walk more easily with the mountain bike shoes and SPD cleats as compared to my friends who all used road bike shoes and Shimano/Look style cleats.
As I've increased the amount of cycling that I do (100-125 miles/week) I wanted to get a more practical shoe for road cycling and decided it was time to buy new pedals as well. For shoes I got the new Shimano SH-R086L Shimano SH-R086L Cycling Shoe - Men's
Since this is my first use of this type of pedal, I have no prior experience with them. But I must say the... Read more
6 of 6 people found the following review helpful Super nice pedals!, September 15, 2011 By This review is from: Shimano PD-5700 105 Road Bike Pedals, Silver (Sports) When I first got my road bike, I used SPD pedals and Sidi mountain bike shoes for a couple thousand miles, but I found the balls of my feet would become excruciatingly painful after about 50-60 miles of riding at a time. After my first Century, I could barely walk, the bottoms of my feet hurt so badly. Several bike professionals confirmed what I read on the internet, that the MTB shoes' small point of contact was putting too much pressure on one point of the ball of my foot. (other opinions were that my shoe was too flexible, but Sidi makes a stiff shoe)
So I bought these pedals because they are not much heavier than the Ultegra pedal and the price was right.
I found the pedals and cleats very easy to attach.
I put a few training miles on them, then headed out to ride the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride - after two 100-plus mile days my feet didn't hurt at all.
I have since ridden close to 1000 miles on them and these pedals are really nice -... Read more
6 of 6 people found the following review helpful A good road pedal for a semi-serious cyclist, June 30, 2011 By Bobmon (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Shimano PD-5700 105 Road Bike Pedals, Silver (Sports) I like to consider myself a semi-serious cyclist and have been gradually increasing the quality of my cycling equipment over the past few years. This year I decided it was time to look at my shoes, cleats, and pedals. I originally started out riding a hybrid frame with mountain bike shoes and SPD cleats/pedals. It was great for the type of riding I was doing but after getting a second hand road bike a few years ago I decided my mountain bike shoes were not quite right for the riding I was now doing. So I relegated my mountain bike shoes to my hybrid frame and decided to try out road shoes and pedals.
My first attempt at an upgrade came in the form of Look pedals/cleats. They were inexpensive and compatible with the flip side of the pedals on the spin bikes at the gym. They worked okay, had a decent amount of float but nearly killed me several times when I found my foot sliding out from underneath me on a wood or tile floor.
So, I started investigating other... Read more
